Tab Times Privacy Policy

Chrome Extension Privacy

Privacy Policy

Tab Times is designed to help you understand how much active time you spend on open browser tabs. The extension keeps its tracking data on your device and does not send it to a remote server.

Information We Handle

Tab Times may process limited browser tab information so it can display active time in the extension popup. This can include:

  • Tab titles, URLs, favicons, tab IDs, and window IDs.
  • Time spent on active tabs and related usage-limit settings.
  • Basic extension state needed to keep the popup accurate while tabs change.

This information is used for local tab-time tracking only. Tab Times does not collect account details, names, email addresses, payment information, or precise location data.

How We Use Information

Tab Times uses tab information to provide the core extension features:

  • Measure active time for tabs you have visited.
  • Rank tracked tabs by active usage time.
  • Show per-tab focus limits, warnings, and remaining time.
  • Let you focus, close, or reset tracked tabs from the popup.

We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, cross-site tracking, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's visible functionality.

Storage and Retention

Tab Times stores usage data and settings in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. The extension does not operate a cloud database or sync your tab usage history to a service controlled by us.

Tracked tab entries may be removed when tabs are closed or when you reset tracked time in the popup. You can also remove the extension or clear extension storage through Chrome to delete locally stored data.

Sharing and Disclosure

Tab Times does not sell, rent, or share your personal information. Because the extension is designed to keep tab usage data local, we do not receive that data in the normal operation of the extension.

We may disclose information only if required to comply with applicable law or a valid legal process, and only to the extent such information is available to us.

Chrome Permissions

Tab Times requests only the permissions needed to provide its features:

  • Tabs: read tab details and update active tabs for tracking and focus actions.
  • Storage: save usage history and settings locally in Chrome.
  • Windows: bring the correct browser window into focus when you select a tab.

These permissions are used to support the extension's tab-time tracking workflow, not to monitor you outside the browser or transmit browsing activity elsewhere.

Your Choices

You remain in control of the extension data stored on your device. You can:

  • Reset tracked time from the extension popup.
  • Close tracked tabs from the popup.
  • Disable or remove Tab Times from Chrome at any time.
  • Clear extension data through Chrome's browser settings.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Tab Times changes. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after an update means the revised policy applies.
